Newmark Hotels Kick Starts “Project Laduma”
HOSPITALITY management and marketing company, Newmark Hotels PTY (Ltd) have joined forces with Wines of South Africa (WOSA) and hospitality service training gurus - Lets Sell Lobster in a bid to improve wine knowledge and service excellence. The campaign, aptly named “Project Laduma” focuses on service training within the food and beverage sectors throughout South Africa in the build up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer event.
Project Laduma is an initiative between WOSA and a selection of high profile wine estates that have teamed up to improve service delivery in the food services sector – especially in the field of wine service. The project aims to educate and empower wine stewards with indepth knowledge of the South African wine industry and its products, which in turn should greatly improve wine service delivery in restaurants, bars and hotels across the country.
Newmark Hotels hosted the first training programme between 27 April – 2 May 2009 for all of the Group’s food & beverage complement as well as a number of invited staff from the food services industry - totalling 55 persons. The five-day work shop took place at the V&A Hotel’s conference centre – The Forum.
Funding for the project is generated from the sale of Fundi Wines - a venture between several wine estates namely Stellekaya, Anwilka, Hartenberg, The Company of Wine People and False Bay Vineyards.
Successful completion of this training course will also give candidates in the local food and beverage services industry a SETA accredited qualification. Fundi Wines will also be available for purchase at OYO Restaurant & Cocktail Bar located at the V&A Hotel, Salt Restaurant & Bar at the Ambassador Hotel in Bantry Bay and the deluxe Dock House Boutique Hotel & Spa located in the V&A Waterfront.
Newmark Hotels (PTY) Ltd manage the Ambassador Hotel located on the Atlantic Seaboard in Bantry Bay, the V&A Hotel as well as the deluxe Dock House Boutique Hotel & Spa, both located in the world-famous V&A Waterfront. The dining destinations Salt Restaurant & Bar and OYO Restaurant & Cocktail Bar also form part of the boutique collection.
