This week, we would like to introduce a ranger that has been with us at Motswari for some time and who truly goes above and beyond to ensure that each and every experience of the bush is a long-lasting and unforgettable one for guests. Her passion and enthusiasm for sharing her vast knowledge of the abundant flora and fauna of the Timbavati and Umbabat Nature Reserve, as well as her own tales of remarkable encounters have kept many a guest enthralled and entertained, making their Motswari experience a memorable and rewarding one.
“Hi my name is Robynne Wasas and I have been working at Motswari as a ranger for almost 3 years now and still loving every second!
My hometown is about 10 hours south of Motswari towards the East Coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal, where I was raised on a farm by my mom and my sister. I was fortunate to have a family who were very enthusiastic about the bush and who took me on beautiful holidays to places like the Kruger National Park and Hluhluwe/Imfolozi. It was here that my love for the African bush developed and my passion for not only living out in the bush, but also working hard to protect it, started to form. I had great childhood dreams of chasing down poachers through long grass on the back of a courageous zebra. I was bitterly disappointed to find out, years later, that you can’t actually ride a zebra but it’s a dream I am still working on nonetheless.
My favourite animal has to be the mighty African elephant. I am in awe of the intricate matriarchal society under which they function so brilliantly and love their clear mental and emotional intelligence which always results in endless laughs and entertainment on game drives. I also just love the ever so feisty warthog who never backs down from a challenge – I have even seen a leopard running away from a warthog! You also don’t know attitude until you have been stared down by a female warthog with piglets. Plus, I feel like our hair has a slight resemblance after a windy drive! I truly love everything about the African bush and working at Motswari and always enjoy making my game drives fun and exciting with a slightly feminine twist.”
